The Hasemania marginata/nana is a fish which has long been known in the trade under the name copper or silver tips. This is because the copper color they show, if kept under proper conditions. Originally they come from Brazil but now we offer almost only captive bred species.
The Marginata is a peaceful fish which is easy to combine with other peaceful fish like tetras and rasbora's. The temperature must be between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. With some free swimming space, a little movement in the water and a dark soil they will soon enjoy themselves. It is a fish best kept in groups, which means they are best kept with at least 6 pieces. With only 1 or 2 fish you will not see the beautiful copper color they are known for. For food, they do not make heavy demands as long as it fits into their small mouth. Dry and frozen or live foods are eagerly eaten. Although they do not get very old, if you keep them in the right way, you can at least enjoy their company for a few years.
